"Lake Tahoe at sunrise"
The sun grazes the cool sand and heats it up, slowly.
The rays creep up.
Closer and closer to my toes, painted purple.
The water is still.
Usually wave filled from the passing boats and splashing swimmers.
Some kayaks paddle past, farther than the pier.
They take no notice of me.
I don't blame them
They watch the sky as it catches fire
The purple of the night, smoke
the pinks and reds reflected on the mirror
then put out by the calm blue skywater
I walk on the dock the water is so clear
I see the little crawdads creeping along the bottom
Soon, children will come and dangle bacon and ham and fish
in the water, and hope
to catch these tiny little lobsters
and show them to their fathers, grandpas, and uncles alike, proud.
I reach the end and sit.
My feet dangle inches away from the water.
My shadow is resting on the surface
I watch the sky burst into flames
The sand between my toes salts the lake
my lake
