I LEFT HOME TODAY

I LEFT HOME TODAY

My safe place, my comfort,
A place that fit.
My handprints are everywhere,
The mark where I sit.

The echo is deafening.
The emptiness, eerie.
The dust in the corners,
Just looks so dreary.

I close my eyes,
I hope life comes back.
I listen and strain
No sounds I can pack.

Where did it go,
How did we live,
When was it over,
How much did we give?

Pizza in the kitchen,
Best sitting on the floor.
Fires in the fireplace,
Friends and parties, and more.

The pool was freezing,
“A person could die in there!”
Muffled laughter in the hallway,
The days of no care!

The crying, the hurt,
The despair and the pain,
Are healed and reverted,
As long as we remain.

We prayed and comforted,
We held each other close.
If rooms could talk,
They would surely boast.

My boys became men.
Men I admire.
I love their days, their moments,
My heart they inspire.

My best friend and I
Loved the home together.
We were guided, lead,
God’s plan kept us tethered.

So much to remember,
Recall, and digest,
Our home of hope,
It just is the best!

It is so dark and empty,
No reflections of us.
Dusty places where pictures were,
Try harder to see, I must.

Almost swept out,
A pile of rubble left.
Outside the dumpster holds
My tears, bereft.

What will be the last thing removed?
A nail, random photo, piece of a toy?
My broken heart will need something.
Please God, let me remember it all!!

So sad. I know it has to be very painful.
Hang tuff .
Big huggs, blessings,
emy
You did a great job getting it on paper.

Some great memories, explored and revealed. I enjoyed reading your story of emotion, of life.

Though in the last 4 verses I felt the rhythm and flow fall away.

Thanks for sharing
