It’s in the evening time, the moon is shining bright
upon the dark-lit sky
A masquerade party is taking place
Elaborate costumes, classical, modern-day
Masks are on each telling a story of their lives.
Funny, serious, animal-like, monstrous.
They’re dancing, drinking, frolicking,
portraying a role, a character an illusion of themselves.
Faces covered, afraid to reveal identities
Characters, apparitions of their beings,
portraying a fantasy of who they are.
Outwardly they pretend, some believe their distorted self
Who are these people in reality?
Often we hide, cover, project something else
other than ourselves
Hold the mirror, gaze, internalize, what do you see?
Who are you without the mask?
Costume, clothes, hats
If you were to choose your face to war,
who would you choose?
This would leave the final impression upon your face
You would wear it throughout eternity.
As you waken one morn, as the sun rises
Go to your mirror of reality, remove your façade.
What do you see?
