I study hard and usually try
to please you;i do my best
but it seems like you always want more
i never get any time to rest
i can never go out with my friends
i can never follow the latest trends
you don't allow me to dress up in my own style
i wonder when it is all gonna end
i cannot listen to a music too loud
although it's the music that i think is cool
and when it comes to tv,i can never watch what i want
so when my friends talk about the latest shows,i feel like such a fool
i am not asking to party all night long
and i don't feel like piercing my chin or my tongue
i just want you to notice the efforts i do
to try to satisfy you and get closer to you
and give me a little more time to myself
and be a little more tolerant too...

A lot of teens go thru things like this. Or at least I know I did, I wasn't even allowed to date out of my religion or race. I did it anyways, I moved out of my parents two years ago, when I was 16/almost 17. It wasn't a mistake and I won't ever regret it. But don't move out unless your on your last thread. I was beyond at that point my escape was writing and suicide. Since I left i've attempted sucide once but when at my parents house almost every weekend if not more often. Good luck try talking to them, my parents didn't want to talk till I left and then it was too late.
Always

Hey,
I know what you were feeling when you wrote these lines...in Singapore, it's the same too...lots of rules and regulations put in place.
I used to be in a devout Lutheran family, who were quite unorthodox. Everyone else who wasn't a Protestant, like us-them, I mean-"was in cahoots with the devil", and I wasn't supposed to go near'em. Images of stuff like dragons were also trashed. I can remember how, when my grandma died, they trashed her china set to pieces "to reject Satan". What ignorance!
After I graduated, I got a job in a bank in Malaysia, where I decided to convert to orthodox Buddhism...yet I still maintain ties with my family. It's so hard to get notice that you're trying to please'em I think-given the mercenary culture of Singaporeans these days....sigh-some things die hard. |
