Colour film
20th century
you define me.
I used to catalogue changes by the quality of the pictures.
Black and white , goodnight.
Colour was the new,
like a sweeping modern statement
here we are-
The people of the 1970's!
There we went.....
There were plenty.
Now I look back.
no longer shining new,
those colour pictures.
Comfort from which I drew.
They look old. So old
and so do I.
Colour no longer defines.
Now it is something more subtle-
fashion, background, something else...
The innocence of a child's eyes
it lives forever in the frame.
But it is always within it's own time.
And then I look at movies.
Old movies, favourites.
Their stars, so young and beautiful.
Unobtainable. For more than one reason.
Many have passed, or deteriorated.... badly.
I sometimes wish I could go through the glass
and join them in the immortality of the screen
they look so happy.
Their environment so carefree. Boundaries set.
I feel like my predecessors advanced
their future was an endless stream of positive change.
I fear for my child as I don't see things getting better
just more crowded,
but with better quality pictures.
