how dare you write of such a thing?
a child who could not comprehend
that cars are an uneven match
at speed approaching round a bend
the ambulance it rocked and rolled
as all inside tried to revive
the organs of this tiny waif
whose vital signs were on the slide
his father ran toward the scene
with horror etched upon his face
his socked feet soaking, gathering
all kinds of debris out of place
the driver sank within himself
and wished he could rewind the time
his sense of self preservation
was crushed as he recalled the grind
and thump as he hit tiny bones
that crunched and left stains on the screen
that sheltered him from everything
and yet a witness in between
he could not bear to step outside
or drive on to escape the place
nowhere available to hide
the screens last image of a face
