In the midst of despair

Life taunts me prematurely every morning
Like a bully preying on its victim in a playground of people who don’t see
I’m told my feelings aren’t real
That I’m not myself
But I feel like me.
I still see me in the mirror, well sort of.
I don’t want to die,
But wish I didn’t exist. Does this make me a coward?
Sinking, sinking, sinking, the water is lapping my feet
Can’t anybody else see that?
What’s getting me ‘down’?
Where to start? Nothing, and everything
Circumstance, my brain, my fear, my dread…me, I suppose.
A lifetime of disappointment ahead.
Smiling when others smile, crying when others cry
Pretending that I’m not in a ring with gloves on
And losing

I can relate with the words you've so elegantly laid out here.
Your poem is very sad to read as I have been there before also. It's hard to be what makes everyone else happy but just be the you that makes you happy.
Great write! |
