Look, listen! Where’s that sound coming from?
Louder, louder, louder
Over there, look!
There’s an immense looming shadow over the horizon.
Great Zeus, do my eyes deceive me?
A great giant, a one-eyed creature, a beast to behold.
The growling of the Cyclops is overbearing to the ear.
Watch! It grabs its hairy belly and watches
to fill it to the full. See! Look!
The great beast lugs his immense club as he walks,
looking for his next meal.
He grabs a nearby villager, clubs him, rips him,
tears him from head to toe.
O the great gods, hear me!
How my heart rushes, my great Zeus!
See, see me as I quiver, shaking in my sandals.
I pray thee, Mister Cyclops, don’t eat me, devour me not!
Spare me, great beast, great wonder,
your stomach I don’t wish to satisfy.
Great Zeus, protect me!
I see you grunt, growl in your displeasure.
What must I do to appease thee, great one?
Here, take my sheep, cows, fowl, have your feast.
Spare my life, O great one. Here, take, eat!
Have your fill, for the night is yours.
See him eat, devour with one huge breath.
O my heart rushes, my great Zeus
Gods, I praise you for not letting Cyclops eat me.
Behold the great creature sleeps.
Sleep, sleep, O great monster, menace to all,
where the dawn brings another day
for you to behold.
At the dawning of the day’s sun,
you’ll be ready to feast again.
But I will be gone!
