Spectating Blindly

Contributed by Hades on Friday, 4th February 2011 @ 08:56:08 AM in AEST
Topic: SongLyrics

We watch the world destroy itself as spectators
We reap the benefits but don’t look for a cure
Corrupted politicians selling their lies
We just watch on with our glazed eyes
Our friends are in on the heist
But you say one word and you’re already a fascist

We investigate the problem, Not the source
It’s like we have no soul, We feel no remorse
Have we finally breathed in the opium?
Lighting the pipe is the man on the podium

The trees burn with torches lit from hate
You can live but better hope you aren’t anything but straight
Schools filled with empty desks and unruly statistics
These teachers shouldn’t know exactly what their fix is
Spread your beliefs because it’s what they want
Go off to war but hope you don’t come home haunted

We investigate the problem, Not the source
It’s like we have no soul, We feel no remorse
Have we finally breathed in the opium?
Lighting the pipe is the man on the podium

We look down on minorities like we’re better
Are we the majorities that know any better?
Rivers bleed from our ignorance
We smelt iron and have been drinking ever since
We’re a country of faith and hope for the masses
But mother nature is taking over and we’ve used all our passes

We investigate the problem, Not the source
It’s like we have no soul, We feel no remorse
Have we finally breathed in the opium?
Lighting the pipe is the man on the podium

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
