I just want my little boy back.

It's so ironic,
I thought I was on it,
Now I've got my life back on track,
Yet I think I've failed,
'cause my boy's derailed,
Should have been quicker to react,
He's drinking,smoking,
Already toking,
My mistakes now where he is at,
On top of it all,
He's failing at school,
His teachers he shows no respect,
So now he's grounded,
My disquiet sounded,
Hope to give him some time to reflect.

I know when it started,
When his mother departed,
Never seen someone so bereft,
But for eight long years,
He's held back the tears,
Seems now it's his time to attack,
So all I can do,
Is see this through,
Try to get his life back on track.,
And now time will tell,
If I've truly failed,
I just want my little boy back.

Matt,
This is sublime. You sum up the perils of parenthood brilliantly. My own are all grown up but my 23 year old son is certainly off the rails but in a different way. I know how you feel. Writing like this really helps keep things in perspective.Keep at it mate, and thanks for another fine poem. Regards,
Dennis.

So all I can do is see this through........those are the pivotal lines of expression from a heart full of love for a son who is obviously struggling but has a rock to cling to get angry at and push and push knowing that the rock aint gonna move and is there to stay.

My mum went through the same sort of thing with me a few years ago; for me it was about pushing my mother away, because I didn't understand how she could love me when my dad couldn't, didn't understand how I could be worthy of it. I think your son will be fine, a beautiful write, but you can't blame yourself, it seems your doing all you can. He'll come around, as soon as he understands that you're there, no matter what.
