close your eyes

You cannot hide your fear of me, I’m liberty.
You labelled other things as me, in history.
I’ve come to take my tribute for your loyalty.
Your oath is worth nothing but dust, just words to me.

Your judgement on other forms of humanity
Is sickening enough because you think you’re free.
Well nothing come for free, at least that’s news to me.
You can write the news for western kind to see.

The words uttered by leaders have a mighty tone.
Written with interests of those who hold the stone
Which they will use to crush the thoughts of other tribes
But in the meantime words alone will pacify.
Votes of corrupt lords are used to justify
The need to act in defence with a hidden lie.

Whilst multi-culture grips the corridors at home
Anti-culture’s hurled to topple other thrones.
Goliath craft are sent across the mighty seas
To gather goods and fuel, maintain inventories.
Logistics of great empires, they are always met
Those poorer nations hunger we will soon forget.
Secretly we’ll blame them for their backward ways
And say it’s always been that way since early days.

Sky scrapers show the way to go for other shores
They copy aspirations, open mighty stores
Where consumption’s seen as triumph ‘cause it is our right.
I fear sheer numbers will turn this modern day to night.
The limits of our reach will soon be compromised
And liberty? Just feel free to close your eyes.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
