Topic: Lifepoems

Once there was a something, something less than a dot
it happened. Just happened, and things got hot.
Exponential growth beyond the knowledge of this man.
Periodic tables, logic, measured. No great plan.
Time beyond the reason of a creature of the earth
fashioned universal chaos, made from nothing to great worth.
Life occurred right here, maybe somewhere else as well.
Creatures of the earth imagined heaven, feared hell.

The creatures had a language and a means to record time.
Science held their reason and religion held their rhyme.
Individual creatures see the world as pioneers
with biological wiring protecting them from mortal fears.
The young stay young forever in their time until they see
the cracks in their own faces, then a stark reality.
By the time they realise it ,their influence is gone.
Too wrapped up in their status to try to change what can be done.

But back to something bigger as I now try to explain
that the creatures of the earth feared knowledge going down the drain
Science and religion quarrelled, many martyrs to their cause
through many centuries of ideological wars.
and in the west science rises as the conqueror of lies
but science gives it's answers through cold, dead eyes
what comfort can their be in knowing all there is to know?
No mystery, no magic, knowing where we all won't go.

Knowing everything we think, we feel, is chemically foretold.
No romance, magic ,mystery, leaves me feeling pretty cold.
These facts do not compare to my experiences and pain.
Love, death and other losses I don't want science to explain.
Why does the smell of Lilly s take me somewhere lost in time?
and why do I care what I do, and why waste effort on this rhyme?
I marvel at the seasons, tides and natures synchrony
all of these things within me resonate. Make me feel free.

Within us all is someone screaming out for a great plan.
Those religious of us name our reason after a great man
be it Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed or maybe one forgot
They all meant well, through followers their memory won't rot.
They all tried to remind us that life is precious and is short
and most times it is peaceful but sometimes it will be fraught.
No scientific theory could prepare us quite as well
as the illogical notion of a heaven and a hell.

This is a really good write, it has a good flow to it and a subject that's close to my heart.I'm quite a spiritual person but have great love of science. It's nice to know there's someone else out there considering these seemingly opposing aspects of life and great to see that person putting their ideas across so eloquently.
