What?

What?
By Aaron Boyes

Trapped in a clouded mind.
Everything is dim, eerie, sad and wet.
Does anything make you happy?
Who are you?

It’s hard to move, see, feel and even think.
The sun is gone; swarms of fog take it’s place.
Your mind looking itself in the mirror when it sees:
The clutter. The dust. The discontent.
Where are you?

The once lively, flowing paths are clogged
With dirt and mud. It slows them down.
It makes them unable to serve their function.
Function! Yes, if everything could just function.
But it doesn’t and maybe it never will.
What is going on? Why?

From the outside it may seem calm
and well, OK. But it is not that way.
One moment thing everything is alright
And the next nothing appears to be as it should
Why are we living this way?

But we must look towards the light not towards the dark
Trees still grow people still live and babies are still born.
One must see beyond their-own eyes
only then will things seem clear.
We need to dream, we need to think.
But, most importantly believe.
Make it real, move past the clouded mind into a clear
Succinct world that you have created.
Believe and everything will be alright.

A delicate piece of writing this is. I can dig up under those letters and see what you are saying as this situation often occurs at school for me.

Nice poem first up. I like how it starts with despairity and then reveals the light at the end of the tunnel and gives hope. Well written.
