Lies My Mother Told Me

selfstruggles
|
When the children would tease me,
Sneers of discontent distorting their faces,
I would run home to my mother and cry,
"Mommy, what's wrong with me?"
"Nothing," my mother would coax.
"The rest of the world is wrong with their jokes."
When I hid on the sidelines,
Too afraid to play with the other boys and girls,
I would run home to my mother and cry,
"Mommy, what's wrong with me?"
"Nothing," my mother would promise.
"The rest of the world is wrong in their hardness."
When no one understood my quips,
Always humming on a different frequency,
I would run home to my mother and cry,
"Mommy, what's wrong with me?"
"Nothing," my mother would murmur.
"The rest of the world is wrong against your humor."
When my eyes strayed to the other girls,
Never quite grasping that masculine appeal most swooned at,
I would run home to my mother and cry,
"Mommy, what's wrong with me?"
"Nothing," my mother would coo.
"The rest of the world is wrong to you."
When the rest of the world was wrong all the time,
Virtually never finding solace on the sturdy ground my mother swore I held,
I ran home to my mother and cried,
"Mommy, why aren't I wrong, too?"
She had no answer that time.
She had no answer ever again.

this is an incredibly deep poem that i loved reading. it goes to show that sometimes what you want to hear isnt always what you need to hear. and although what you need to hear may hurt, it hurts a lot less than the realisation you've been made out to look like an idiot in the long run. very well done xx |

This Poem is indeed from the hidden, deeper, darker side of who you are!! I liked it alot!! It takes confidence of heart and mind to share your adolescense in pain! And in doing so,, admitting that you have realized some of the harsh things that were forced upon you and just how far you've come to this point where you've figured it out now, will you let it go or stress out, trying to seek answers....? Have you ever confronted your mother. |
