Us Or Them

There is a man, not a boy in the mirror
Trying to change his ways
As he looks on, ever wondering
In his confused, lost gaze
He’s lost with no eye contact
Can’t face up to his own sins
So he sinks beneath the wretches
And dives deep within
He knows exactly what he has done
But yet he does not know
He doesn’t have a clue where the exit is
So back to the addiction he does go
He has nowhere else to wander
This is where he feels wanted at his best
He knows it’s wrong, he’s known all along
and his heart pounds deep in his chest
He knows what she’d think
If he told her, she knew
It was not just a little game
He slaughtered more than a few
He wishes, that he were popular
Normal, not this way and shape
He wishes, like the stick man
He could disappear within his cape
But he can’t so back to that game
He does head
Yet at night, so tired
He cannot go to bed

He can lie upon why of course
Upon his cold bed
But he can’t get a wink of sleep
For the guilty thoughts in his head
For the guilt and the horror
For what he has done once again
What’s wrecking things now
He knows it’s the lies and the games!
He sits and waits
For something, for some cure
For any escape he can make
He’s just so unsure
He can’t talk to people now
So he always lies his way out
When she’s the one that knows
She’s that one that deeply doubts
She knows why her heart aches
When he heads off, she cries
Inside she knows, it’s not rest
It’s all lies
She does want to tell him
Doubt him she tries not too
but liars always gets found out
It’s a fact, and a rule
Inside his head
She can only guess
This is what goes on
As each lie makes rest…
As he awakes from
His deep hibernation
They cry out for him
They want to imprison
They want something
They want a conviction
Of jealousy and rage,
Away from her short illusions
He cracks up inside
He wants to be put on a leash
He wants controlled
Never released
But that’s not fighting
That is not the cure
So he has no clue what to do
At all, anymore
Back to her
What’s she’s thinking
As she lies in bed
Without him…
You tell me that you love me
You tell me and you we belong
Then could you prove it to me
Let go of them, to me do hold on
You tell me so many things darling
Things to remember
But then as I know you play
I feel they are more important, will be forever
My vision is in doubles
You’re two people, green and red
Will you and I grow old together?
Was it a lie, would you rather I was pretend?

I see you standing in the mirror
Thinking hard what you can do
Listen to me closer
I believe in you
As the end of the poem does near
Then I hope you can hear these words in voice
Jordan, you’re going to have to decide
Us or the lies and games, it’s all you choice.

wow... that was a very heartfelt and gorgeous piece of poetry. Such a tangled skein we live in. I really enjoyed this poem. Change is often hard, especially when you have been a bad boy, and are trying to create a better life for yourself.
