Life Going On.

Contributed by cashfan1 on Thursday, 23rd December 2010 @ 08:07:03 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

Snow blind and wind chilled
The mountain is an ice sculpture
On a stony plinth at the world's edge.
Not a single bird is flitting in the hedgerow,
No faraway sound of a dog barking,
The silence is total, the peace absolute.
Only the lights from distant farmhouses
Hint at a hidden warmth.
And only the path by the lake,
Where footprints have ruptured the snow,
Provide the proof of life going on.
The horizon is a colourless outcrop,
Heavy with winter woe.
The sky a vast grey ocean slumbering
Beneath a skin of subtle iced membrane.
Snow blistered and wind whipped I walk on
Rupturing the perfect snow,
Proof absolute, of life going on.

Personally I love the description you put into this poem. It really made me feel as though I was you in a way and I was the one walking by the lake.

I also think the subtle hint that even when your alone there will always be signs of life and that were not alone is a perfectly fitting theme.

Well done

A stunningly beautiful piece of writing. Again, you take the reader to your created landscape and it's nothing short of pretty and a tranquility only found in your words. Fantastic writing my friend.

Talented I must say felt like I saw the farm houes's and felt the wind on my face. The foot priints the only sign of life just sounds so peaceful. Structure a little wacky but this site is hard to really set up the poem just right other then that The poem is great

Youre not just desciptive, its how you describe it. Like everyone else says, it makes you feel like youre actually there but the words you use make it so much more real.
