I am walking.
Just walking.
The leaves try to keep up
on the soft brush of the wind,
but I have my pace set;
they fall behind with a tragic ease.
An amber sky burdened by the weight of the sun
sinking below the edges of the earth,
into a country I may never see in my lifetime,
though only an ocean away
is plastered against my retina.
The distance doesn’t keep me at bay.
Monetary gain,
when did it become necessary for sustenance?
Humankind gave up on the inner fight,
the struggle.
Oh we humans struggle to struggle,
succumb to the pain,
and learn how to make pain so painfully pleasurable
that we consciously seek out drama and tragedy
till we are all stereotypical little teeny weenies
*****ing about how our life sucks
because we lack something that someone else doesn’t lack.
If we all had everything equal
we’d be the so-called devil socialists you hear about
and you’ll still,
unknowingly,
support it in the crevices of your brain.
Your brain will fall to the rotted abyss
inlaid with corpses and ashes
waiting for never to come;
you’ll call to relatives you only recall
from a vague unimportant memory
you think you remember from your childhood.
They won’t answer back,
they’re burned up and gone,
and soon you will be too.
Just beneath the brow of the human race we see the end.
It is our common ground.
We all begin and we all end.
The only day we will not hate one another
is the day that we are all ending in unison,
like a song,
all separate melodies
(the guitar, the drum, the hum, the singer,
the random techno and silly instruments for earlobe flavor)
come to a slow mellow close and enter into silence.
I wait for the end of our song on the edge of a fall sunset;
walking.
I am walking.
Just walking.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
