A Cold Day

The scent of Christmas baking
Swirled my senses numb
And the powdered sugar dust on the ground
Even made me smile
You poked me with your laugh
And pinched me with your wit
As the hallway darkened
And the air got colder
Had anything changed since December
Only a few years ago?
Yes, you reminded me,
More than forgettable
The cold was once for cuddling
Now for shivering alone
The snowy paths once for walking
Are icy and empty
The delacately wrapped presents
Stay in the store another year
Oh, you take her hand
And enter the Land of
Love, winter, and cheer

Great imagery and description taking the heart on a journey of painful memory, from the warmth into the cold, sadness highlighted in the detail......delicately wrapped presents, then the anger and the loss in painful recognition that the love has gone....... oh you take her hand. |
