Twas the night before summer

That cigarette behind your ear
Is gleaming in the moonlight.
I somehow snatched your eyes from here,
Expecting them to disappear,
But without another sip
My hand has found your hip
And you’re saying perfect lines
In a surreal-speckled night.
Laughter ends each rhyme
‘Cuz you’re a slick and goofy charm
With a tongue that bears no harm.
You’ve got me lost in time
With my arm around your arm
And your breath around my heart.
I can’t say your smile’s magic
In case we end apart.
I knew it from the start
That this could be quite tragic.
But I’ve already slipped in
Because I think this could be perfect.
I trust your silly grin…
For once, just maybe everything
Will end up to be worth it.
