Trying to Stop a Mountain

As the sands of time sift through your fingers,
And the sound of laughter malevolently lingers,
Holding not what you thought would bring the truth,
But only the matured remains of your precious youth,
Look up into the sky to determine the finality,
Of this ponderous and precious simple reality.
There is no answer and there is no question,
Life is a playground often ruled by aggression.
The weak are the prey who fall beneath the strong,
And half the people we know and love are the pawns.
The game of life will devour the meek and humble,
Leaving them trapped in the pit where they stumbled,
The world does not care how we see its hard image,
It's rough from the start and if you’re strong… you will finish.

Your poem describes teenage hood in such a beautiful manner, it's hard to believe it rhymes and it's true. This is a wonderful piece of art you should be proud of! :) |
