A Face Tells A Thousand Words

Contributed by Abbygale on Friday, 19th November 2010 @ 03:22:47 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

Look at my face..what do you see?
Do you see a daughter who strives for acceptance?
A daughter who wishes for love?
A student who struggles for perfection?
Do you see scars my past left behind?
Scars it drew on my happy mask..
Do you see cries? Do you see pain?
Do you see the emptiness in my eyes?
I feel my soul had been locked in a cage..
Do you see a mother who tries her best?
A wife who does all she can?
A soul crushed by failure?
Do you see rage?
Do you see anger?
Do you see sorrow?
Do you see tears?
Do you see a fake smile across my face?
Do you see lies?
Someone in disguise..
Do you see glory?
Do you see sadness?
Do you see hurt?
Do you see desperate tries?
Do you see emptiness?
Or do you just see a face?

Wow. What a powerful write. There is a flood of emotion in this. The feeling of being taken for granted and just another face to make sure things get done without a sign of appreciation. Great job.

yes, i agree with you that a face is a face....a very distinctly interrogative mode suits the anguished state of the mind.

A powerful write... to me a face is more than what we see. We see the mask and the face is hidden beneath. I look in the mirror and thats when I see most clearly. My face is bare. I see the pain, but I also see the strength that has gotten me to where i am. This poem expresses thoughts I many times wondered, but feared to much to ask aloud. I loved it. Some of our best poems come from pure emotions, not long time projects.
