Castle Anthrax

Contributed by Butterat_Zool on Friday, 2nd August 2002 @ 08:33:37 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Imagine, if you will, building a castle
out of large, grey bricks.
Imagine making the bricks into a circle-
shaped room as tall as the clouds.
Imagine building up this room
from the inside.
Imagine coming to the top of your tower,
and putting the roof on.
Imagine the safe feeling that would bring.

Imagine the feeling of living in that tower
and never needing food nor drink.
Imagine the feeling of living in that tower
and never needing air.
Imagine the feeling of knowing that a thousand
thousand armies could never hurt you.
Imagine the feeling of being discovered
by some lonely wandering stranger.
Imagine the fear that feeling would bring.

Imagine talking to the stranger through the
wall of your tower.
Imagine letting him cut away a piece of brick
so that he can see you better.
Imagine letting him build a door
so that he can shake your hand.
Imagine letting him inside
to sleep on the floor of your tower.
Imagine the warm feeling that would bring.

Imagine waking up and the stranger is gone
and a thousand more stand at your door.
Imagine not having enough bricks
to seal up the door he made for you.
Imagine the pain of seeing your tower
all lit up on the inside.
Imagine a new stranger cutting
a new hole in your beautiful tower.
Imagine the pain of your tower collapsing.

The armies can see you now.
Imagine the thirst in their eyes.
They hunger for blood
and they breathe the wrath of the universe.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
