Sunset red where are you now
If the sun sinks will it take my past with it.
I pray it won't rise in the morning.
This beach has pure sand
That would have meant something to me once,
I would have happily walked it with you
And not spared a glance at the old man
Sitting alone and forlorn on the high dune.
The smell of the sunlit sea air would once have moved me
But now I am dry
It does not register
But even still
The pages go backwards against my will
Always back to you.
Even now in twilight as my sun sets there is you.
I look down I see your dress blowing against your legs
Framing the outline of an angel in my midst.
I see the footprints you have left
And even then in my youth I ache for their perfection
Their presence next to mine.
I look up... do I dare
For in my mind I see the presence
of magnificence there.
The lilting song of your laughter
I see it tumble from those perfect sharp teeth
And even though it is an echo heard down all the years
It still brings a tear.
Sunset red where are you now
I hear the waves breaking on the shore
I still fell you beside me
It would be a lie if I said it didn't hurt any more.
The sound of your voice
I hear its echoes
And the sight of you still remains.
I see you laughing and still feel your embrace
I wait here on the high dune
For one day you will walk with me again
Or if the sunset finally claims me
At least it will be an end to this pain.
