Old With You
I too, have not escaped the disagreeing advancement of being,
as my gnarled hand reaches to push away the ashy hair from your pleated face.
I try to cease my quivering swipe for the reward of revealing your unclear eyes,
which I have so carefully sought validation for a fleeting pause called a lifetime.
You have provoked my quiet ancient heart to a resounding and sustained holler by your presence.
I attempt with consideration on twisted, creaking limbs to be set along side the grantor of my awakening.
An awakening that has cast the brilliant light of enthusiasm to the darkest crevasses of my saddened soul.
My once tightened fist raised towards the heavens condemning a most unjust loneliness, has been cancelled by the life long joy of only you.
No more is the tint of youth within our command.
Now only the worn, dim color of age is securely in our employ.
No more shall time be assigned by the longing for each other, as we wait together for our eternal summons

True love never dies. But it shows itself in different ways as the years advance. It is truer, deeper and lovelier in the later years. You have said that so much better than me in your poem. You are very articulate, and a very good poet indeed! |

I view the aging process as a curse. There really is nothing lovely about growing old. You become bent, arthritic, forgetful, or perhaps feeble, wrinkled, etc., etc.
All of the above are the forerunners of what is inevitable and inescapable for all life forms...DEATH.
And if the one we love and cherish dies before ourselves, isn't that the utimate horror story? Why have we been issued the curse called MORTALITY? Oh, I wish someone could help us.
You have written a very insightful but sad piece. You express yourself brilliantly. Keep on keeping on!

Very well done. I really enjoyed this, a twinge of sadness maybe, but still brilliantly expressed. |
