All day long
The air has throbbed with an autumn song
The macho trees are shedding leafs
The last of summer snatched by seasoned thieves
And all the while
With a soft stubborn smile
The sun for summer grieves.
Now in late afternoon
The sky is sobbing in the gathering gloom
With the wind fluting in the chimney breast
This is the time of year I love best
With sheep on the burnished hill crying
The hawk fretting and the lake sighing
For autumn mellow autumn that fleeting guest.

Hi Dennis,
I love your descriptions and precision as always,
though I can't share your love of Autumn, except
in its early stages (harvesting and red and orange
colours) but let this not detract from what is a fine
piece of poetic observation.
