Different Like Me

Contributed by xXIronSharpensIronXx on Sunday, 20th April 2003 @ 10:35:00 AM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

I'm a expert in the field of culture, with a Ph.D. earned by sitting on benches at malls with closed mouth a open eyes.

I saw you today on your way to the store where you can buy the latest things that will make you unique like all your friends(--where you can get in on the trend of avoiding trends.)
$12.96 (including tax) and now you're original. Or something. (Take a bow, Avril Lavinge.) No, you're just a girl in a tie.
Hey, better yet: $19.44 and you can buy a shirt that reads "DON'T LABEL ME," with which you can label yourself a rocker. Or something.
Don't worry, you're an individual just like the cool guys you saw on MTV.

Ha. If ever I was to come up with something truly original, society would put it into production and have it on the shelve (and MTV) by noon the next day. You would be wearing (saying, doing, whatever-ing) it the next time I saw you riding the "up" escalator, on your way back from that previously mentioned store. You wanna know why?...

You don't really want to be unique at all. You're just afraid of the fact that I'm not like you. So you become different... like me.

I think I read the wrong poem....I am an individual, but I am unlike everyone else; I know no other gothic or punk ppl. That is the first thing of yours I read, and I think that unless I find really good work of yours, I must say that I may not become a huge fan. But I do see where you are coming from with this work, there are too many phonies in this world.

Iron...dont listen to JAQUELIENNE (or whatever) she doesnt know what shes talking about... (no offense, she's probably like the people you mentioned in the poem)... i very much liked this one...your point was, everyone wants to be different wanting to be the same... if that makes sense :O) (you said ti better) i really enjoyed this...people who do different become the same, i am guilty of this too...everyone is... thank you for the insight and the beautiful poem

well i have read the poems that u have posted and they are very interesting... however, there is some merit to copying because if no one copied then we would all be screaming around naked refusing to communicate, threfore coppying... ok... that didnt really make sense but whatever, i guess i dont see anything wrong with people who copy... i mean i think im very origional, but i dont think that there is no one with the same whatever as me... we live in a society that encorages people to be individualistic in the same way... we have mass production that almost limits any true originality but thasts fine... as long as it expresses u then its fine... ok enough w/ my rambling... ~Apryl

I really liked this, and the rest of your stuff for that matter. It was very original, no pun intended.
