Doesn't Live Here Anymore

Retreat under covers
An eyelid curtain falls
But you are backstage
In the darkness, waiting
Dripping wet in the shower
Clinging to the warmth
I like it here, where you can’t tell
What is water and what are tears
Into cakes and brownies,
Artificial pleasantries
Taken in, eaten and imbibed
Yet stomach, like me, returns to empty
I stuffed you in my closet
A well-worn childhood teddy bear
The very scent cripples me
And I am a child again, wanting you
Memories glossed over
Gilded with sunshine and smiles,
Daily intruder in wrong room
It does not live here anymore.
