Dawn winter rising
Frost fresh and emerald on the hills.
The sun, born from a womb of stars,
Hangs lazily over the iced goblet
Of the valley floor.
The air is thin with frost
And the promise of a new day.
In the hawthorn hedge a breeze murmurs
A soft lullaby, soothing.
And the cry of the buzzard is a teardrop
Frozen on the mid air loneliness.
On a far distant cairn a shadow moves
Blue sharp and desolate,
A jet plane glides across the rink of sky
Trailing a ghost plume far behind.
And walking away I leave my image
Branded in frost on the hillside
Of this dawn winter rising.

Peaceful, serene, and nice imagery... and perhaps a tad chilly. ;-) |

Can feel the cold aloneness with the hint of life and warmth almost with the pattern of your breath as you absorb this environment with your identity stamped for a brief while and then the raising of expectation as a new day dawns, you form the connection, then we are standing where you are and can see clearly. what more can you want from a writer, excellent |

Hi Dennis,
Quite simply a fine piece of verse! Read it 3 times
and got colder with each read.
You paint pictures in vivid dictum - and, isn't that
what poetry is all about?
