Rose

Contributed by bobotheclown on Saturday, 19th April 2003 @ 04:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I see a rose
Beautiful, red, innocent,
But surrounded by cruel thorns
In my haste and blindness
The beauty of the rose
Captivates me, steals my senses

In my whimpering, childlike state
I crawl, unworthy, to the rose
Reach up a scarred, muddied hand
So it can be mine

My arm bloodied and torn
Skin singed by the thorns,
But the rose is mine!
I persevered despite the pain
Blood falls singing to the ground
Joyous to be free from me,

But like a bumbling, clumsy idiot
I crush the rose, fragile now broken
The petals drift to the ground
And lie at my feet, broken and sad

I stare not wanting to admit
I destroyed something so beautiful
And I know what they represent
An animal cry emits from me
Because everything beautiful I destroy
And I keep moving on... like a disease

You always seem to bring out the darker side of beauty in your poems, casting a shadow with your tragic words. A shadow cannot exist however without light and so some beauty always shines through.

As usual well written....
