Death of the Innocent

Contributed by pinkunicornoctober on Friday, 17th September 2010 @ 10:02:02 AM in AEST
Topic: AmericanTragedy

Things are a little crazy right now,
It's just so funny how,
You said it would all work out.
So I cried a lot,
And you held me close,
You knew something was wrong,
So you raised a toast,
Never expecting the worst,
Nothing could happen to us.
And we lay in the bed,
Not sleeping,
But getting blown out instead,
"Vegas" flashing above our heads,
We were so innocent.
We walked for miles so late at night,
Running from the headlights,
That came into view.
And we hurt each other,
I never expected to fall in-love with another,
You were always my best friend,
Still it wasn't enough for you.
I felt so old,
At eighteen,
I was falling apart,
But my image was clean,
And "Lancelot" talked us through,
I always thought we'd die before you.
And how many times,
Did you say,
Eventually everything will be okay,
When we sat in Amy's room,
Listing to everyone,
And laughing at you.
So you were a little crazy,
But none of us cared,
Because each of us promised,
We would always be there,
You could just look at us,
And believe it was true,
You were like a brother to me,
And I was like a lover to you.
Beneath the snow fall that winter day,
I got a little messed up,
And threw it away,
In a cemetery,
At three A.M,
You fell apart as I ran,
So far away,
I was just to scared to love again.
And I regret it all today,
When I open the door,
And don't see your face,
Or when I have to relive another day,
In a Summer's rain,
All alone now,
And falling apart,
Beating myself up,
For not listening to my heart...
The lights died too,
The day you did,
But there still in that house,
Quietly hid,
In the bedroom,
Where they will always be,
Silently remembering you and me,
And the life we shared,
And the days we spent,
So far from the harshness of the world,
Childhood un-bent,
Before that September day when I woke up,
And realized loving someone just isn't enough,
When you don't follow your heart and see it through,
I never dreamed I'd be without you-
No longer lying in this bed,
Not sleeping,
But getting blown out instead,
When "Vegas" still flashed above our heads,
Before the death of the innocent...

A rather sad true tale from you here. A good description gives the reader a perfect image of the feelings you had. Keep it up.
Chris.

Regret is a strong feeling, and this poem expresses it well.
