I am brought to a point of no return
By a magic nocturnal moment.
The badger makes his shufferling snufferling way
Across fields smoldering
Under the first fire of the season's frost.
He comes out into the light of a delicate moon,
Stands still, every fiber, sinew and muscle taunt
And alert to the dangers of the night.
And I stand too, a shadow undetected,
Emitting no sound, making no movement,
Just my breath sketching demons
On the frosty night air.
The badger turns his face to the altar of the moon,
I turn mine and together we worship.
The wild and the imprisoned, as one.
