Standing here, the empty cup, drained of all emotion
Eyes glazed, deceived by something that to my gaze represents nothing
Deeper meaning locked in chambers of the mind, suffocated by congealed imagination
An outsider to this world I see as only smoke and mirrors
Under the banner of artist I seek to raise some empathy
Obliged to affinity, through desire to create my own canvas
Blasphemous in analysis to what greets my encumbered vision
A single red line on a pristine white canvas
Yet I do not denounce the form, just a facet
My thirst is sated by accurate depictions, not random shapes and arcs
That demand comprehension, like adherence to a code they dare not see broken
This mafia, this sense police, brotherhood of the brush
Contorted nothing dies in the flame of my inner self
Rips out euphoric heart, leaves a corpse bathed in abstract emptiness
Create your lines but do not mindwash me with deceptive labels
You offer one view, I will draw my own conclusion
In these hallowed halls, light dancing through the window holds my attention
Nature's dreamscapes pure and honest dazzle and refill me
A glance back across to this elaborately conceived charade
I am the little boy, these are the Emperor's new clothes.

What a great title, reminds me of when I went to the modern Tate after having visited the Louvre and the Old Tate previously and the pivotal line in your writing,,,,,,Blasphemous in analysis to what greets my encumbered vision ..... sums it up perfectly, as much as I can appreciate some modern art if my heart is to sing and my soul soar then it is to the sight of the works of creative geniuses through the ages portrayed esp by works in oils that bring to life people and places in a way that is truly inspired. |
