Butterfly, oh butterfly,
That goes flutter-by.
Wings of rainbows, color and glass,
Came fluttering its wings, in my garden's grass.
Visiting my flowers, with a smiling face,
Oh the way it flies with grace!
Wings with spots, lines or plain,
I see mostly in the monsoon, when rains,
Flowers love you, as they tell me so,
Do you love them, and do they too know?
Then a butterfly fluttered towards me,
And then it sat and danced with glee!!
A little bird, just sat on top of my head,
A melodious, song it said.
"I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.
I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, who has sight so keen and strong
That it can follow the flight of song?
Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend."
The butterfly came to me and said,
"I love my friends, and so they do,
And then it flew looking brighter by hue.
Then I felt the need of a friend,
The best one, for with time to spend!!!
