So it has come to this,
As I knew it would.
The light laughter of summer
Swallowed by the lonliness of the curlew's cry.
The moor is tinged russet and burnished gold
Smouldering slowly with a new desire.
Ruby stained by over ripe berries,
The hedgerows are undressed and exposed
To the mocking scrutiny of the shortening days.
The air is sweet with a mixture
Of wild herbs and apple wood smoke that lingers
Like a half remembered dream of yesterday.
And so I dream on, soft mellow dreams of summer past,
Waking daily to a landscape of subtle change.
And daily lamenting the loss
Of sweet mother summer.

Hi Dennis,
You have this subtle talent to array words in such
a way that not only do they appeal to sight and
sound, but quite brilliantly to touch, taste and smell.
Wherever you were when you penned this, your
verse took me there.

Tommy is absolutely right you take us there with all the subtle detail and I join you in expressing a lament of easy days,'light laughter of summer,my optimum environment and yet I cannot help but be drawn to the, 'new desire' the colours as Nature draws you to whatever new picture she is ready to paint, lovely write |

Beautiful. Reminds of a reminiscing piece I wrote, but for the autumn. And these seasons just seem like markers that keep a tab on time. |

You've made it sound delicious! Yes, there is a kind of sadness at this time. Great poem. |
