He came from the depths of a Sycamore tree,
Bushy and bristling with business.
And there in a shadey corner of a city park
We came face to face, the squirrel and I.
Tiny, grey perfection displayed with pride,
His rodent eyes bright with summer sun,
He stood on his haunches performing a delicate grooming.
I edged closer and he paused in the act
And we exchanged words in a language of mutual respect.
We both stood suspended in time
While all around the children wove a tapestry of city life.
Our eyes met, mine wide with wonderment,
His alight with life and freedom freely gathered.
As I stood in the shade of his presence
I wore envy like a statement of fashion.
He cleaned his feet with a delicate tongue,
Widened his eyes to allow me one last look
At freedom's vista,
Made for the leafy lanes of the tree, tossed one last glance,
And I stood, transfixed by a shadow, bewildered
By a squriel in the park.

fine craftmanship... Simple yet pure and original... Yet again a refreshing expression that take u out of the daily hustle bustle of life and makes u take notice of nature and its speechless inhabitants who without saying can still tell a lot...
Beautifully expressed, an amazing write |

Very nice. Reminds me of a poem a girl wrote in my local poetry club. I like how you took a simple moment and made it beautiful. I especially liked this line:
'I wore envy like a statement of fashion.'
Great image.

Charming write and all credit given to Mr Squirrel, with whom you shared a 'suspended moment' in time, I also love the line,I wore envy like a statement of fashion and you continue to dazzle with your detail and personability leaving a lovely warm feeling of connection in this world |
