an ode to misanthropy

Contributed by mehuel on Thursday, 12th August 2010 @ 12:37:33 AM in AEST
Topic: abstract

why is there this desire to share
why indeed the need for love.
Our joys our sorrows we hold dear
but why want of others to care

call it genes of human nature
as history stands afore to tell
easier we find to love to hate
and decidedly then enemies we make

as if only living to seek conflict
among other or within ourselves
thus in shadow of love hate we breed

while finding others to interact
soft handling with human tact
bringing every soul at utmost bare
knowing more and all and everything they hold
newer ways and means we find
strong willed to bring then down

with reasons enough to justify all our sins
in foolish contempt to find content
we even redefine the guilt to our needs..

More inclined towards arguments we sway
never missing a chance
we all think we all r right,
to this idea we dearly abide
and fight till our last breath
to feed our egos all the length we tread
would rather die than change opine
as our egos havent and wont learn to repine..

Fooled we stand to believe in god
dead ressurected to preach us all
on grounds of faith we have saints to teach
but in simple love for humanity we wont believe

religions have thus reign supreme
fighting wars in name for peace
more alive r killed for sake of dead
hands muddied in blood of kins
and more graves we dig
but old beliefs wont be shed

so kudos to all misanthropes i say
as in misanthrophy my new religion i confine
and today my hate for humanity i define

while trying hard to like a few
about the rest i try not to care
but still the remanents of what remains
strings hate to all domains
that too i confess includes me

foolish precedence we hold alive
as creed thrives on brazen credence
no urge at all we find to seek
no reason enough to see beyond
we never desire to question any more
what has been told centuries ago
will remain so, till eternity or even more

this is very good. A fine flowing poem, well worded, well done.

I supposed I would classified as a misanthrope. I certainly dislike a lot of people, and feel indifferent about a lot too. But there are some good people out there, you gotta look hard to find them...

Very well argued. The only thing I really disagree with here is the bit about fighting to our last breath for our beliefs. How can you really try to paint this as a weakness of humanity? Would you rather we held no strong convictions at all? Then you don't believe in extreme right or wrong; yet your argument is all about the evils of humanity. Besides, it seems a little illogical not to think you're right about things. Are you saying you're confident that people shouldn't be so confident in their opinions?

I mean, in terms of changing one's mind, I don't think people really change their opinions on things (depending on what we mean by opinion). I just mean that if a person thinks something, they're never truly 100% sure, so having a change in the belief doesn't require overwriting what they "knew", instead they can just redefine it based on whatever new terms led them to do so.

You're certainly right about one thing though, I do love an argument. Who knows, maybe it's all about a search for truth or some such noble cause.
