And Halves Cry

As it turns out, the world is flat
and under the cloak of nighttime,
one can go right off the edge
to a place where eyes can’t see.
A quake no one felt but the smothered soul
who no longer wears those colored clothes
will send a ripple through the stream
to disappear and fade away just like
every one before.
Once in a while a person is looking
when shadows and silence vanquish flesh
that once belonged to someone
they could make some money from.
And no one cares for the missing piece,
just cocaine shots and sales receipts
and pinball games, kaleidoscopes
and then more sales receipts.
The steak hangs high in the lion’s cage
and down below, in a fit of rage,
those who want their shadows back
are passed aside for meat.
The seven-year funerals
with twenty-hour tribunals
and catering by no one
at church Hole-in-the-ground.
Will boulders end the river’s flow?
A question everybody knows
but no one answers out of fear
that truth may yet be told.
When countless grains erode away,
why must one be sought to stay?
Damn the flowing river
or leave it evermore.
Damn the flowing river
or leave it evermore.

This was a good write. Sad in the spirit it was written in, but something that needs to be told.
