Murder Outside Room 7.09

Contributed by puppy_dog_eyes on Friday, 6th August 2010 @ 03:08:27 PM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

There's a murder being committed, below my very eyes
From the vantage on my balcony up here in room 7.09
The roar of night waves crashing on the beach cannot displace
This brutal act of butchery that's framed by neon lights

Accomplices entombed in shadows sit centre, left and right
Martyrs to misguided cause, they sway like chorus girls
A dreadful dirge with loud applause projected to the sky
As drink fuelled, frenzied, baying crowd begins to yell for more

Barry White is dying by staccato off key tones
Mack The Knife is bleeding in this sea front cabaret
My brow is furrowed, how he ploughed his way through Fields of Gold
I fear for Frank Sinatra, now cued up for the cull.

I cannot find solution, except to take repose
Retire to a land of harmony, in melodies of dreams
To the singer who stole tranquility, placed discord in its stead
Perhaps I'm not the only one with reason to retire !!

When i walk to work in the late afternoon/early evening (or, as a comedy character once put it: pre-evening) I have to walk past a pub in which murder is committed on a daily basis, by the medium of karaoke machine. I heard Sinatra's 'my way' being put to death the other day.

I envy the Japanese. They are brilliant, ingenious people. But inventing karaoke was not exactly their finest hour...
