London Dreaming.

Contributed by cashfan1 on Sunday, 25th July 2010 @ 01:03:56 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

On the bustling North End road
The old men stand and sigh
And in the pubs the barrow boys
Have drank the bitter barrels dry.
The great swollen eye of the city
Looks down upon us all,
The maze of solem back streets
And the little junior school
Where I played out in the yard
And dreamed of green fields far away
From this gloomy city,
This gloomy September day.
So hark you cockney barrow boys
Tell your tales and make me sigh
For this city which I hate to love
And for which I would surely die.

May be short, but is very sweet,
Your London City may have been hated, but it's certainly Neat!
Wonderful childhood memories to behold!
Thank you so much for sharing them they needed to be told!
Warm love

Great writing. I could visualize this city perfectly because of your excellent description. Love and hate go hand in hand. They are strong polar emotions.

Hi Dennis,

We can't escape our roots, nor should we. It's
the first platform from which we launch ourelves
into the great unknown called life.

Nice one, my friend.

Tommy

The description is vivid. I'm with on London. I used to visit my grandparents there when I was younger and never liked the place but I'll be running the marathon there in April. Excellent piece, enjoyed it.
Take care, Chris.
