Melissa , why did you linger on my shame
Fortold to this crooked generation?
Did you truly baptise me in Judah's flame
So I could reach out to a broken nation?
Rusted,soothing cliches,laced with earnest deeds
Swollen crowds soon distilled to the loyal few
Overdraft tricks to cater to their needs
Wanting a support act I came searching just for you
In the cafe none recalled your name Melissa
Some thought the party stole your indentity
In a drunken haze I confessed I did miss yer
But not enough to have really broken free
So now I watch La Strada to impress another
She is diffident about man and God and law
Once a class traitor , now my weekend lover
Farewell Meliss,I always loved you more
