MY FATHER'S SON

Contributed by chrisdavid on Tuesday, 20th July 2010 @ 12:31:52 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

Running along the sandy beach, as the sun sets
Looking out across the deep, blue sea
Playing with my ball in the park, being pushed on the swings
This was a moment for my Pa and me

Growing up we've had our differences, we had our fights
We hadn't spoken for some time
You called me things I cannot repeat, they'll live with me for life
I think you've been a little unkind

Life's too short to have regret
So one day we must try
To forget the past and what's been said
Let's make peace before we die

I know I'm not young
But I am my father's son
We may not agree with all that's been done
But, boy, we've had some fun...
I am not young
I'm my father's son

Talk about "bring on the tears"
sheesh! Heartwrenching!

I think it a good thing to remember where we came from, regardless of the scars our parents may leave us with.We cannot call ourselves "grown" less we reach higher than some of the dirt thrown at us.
Sorry...Im rambling lol

Excellent expression and BRAVO to you for standing tall!
Blessings
LW

I love this poem because it reminds me so much of the turmoil relationship my brother has with our father, I have learned to forgive my dad for what pain he has caused us but for a son its alot more complex. A father that lets down a son can sometimes never be forgived or forgotten. ***Self promotion portion of comment removed. Self promotion is not allowed at YPDC. Thank you.
