Kingfisher.

Sweet mother earth
Is moving slowly this morning.
After last night's rain the air is clean,
The sky cool dipped in the honey of the sun.
By the river bank I am made cool
By the shadow of gently running water,
Diamonds trickling over mossy rocks.
And there, far out from the far bank,
A willow is standing lazily,
Her branches, like a fine lady's shawl,
Is draped over the water.
And there, quicker than my eye can blink,
A quickening heartbeat of colour flashes
Through branches and twigs. A Kingfisher.
He sits stiller than a cloud, mesmerised by water
And the game he is playing.
A game of which there is only one outcome.
I wait also, in the shadow of water and trees,
My mind emptied , hypnotised by colour and form,
I am caught in a freeze frame of happening.
Then blood flowing in a quickening rhyme,
Kingfisher aims a stare at the ripples below
And with a certain, deliberate accuracy he hits water,
The willow a bow that fires him arrow like
And deadly becoming of fish. Now there is a silence,
I hold my breath and he emerges from the river,
A flash of soggy russet underbelly glinting in the sun,
His black bill, like an opened empty mussel shell,
Grips the fish, grips my imagination.
He takes to the willow and shakes water from his perfection,
Dripping green and blue he gives me this moment.
I am still. The fish is still. I am humbled.

*sigh*
I just LOVE when the writer puts me right there.
I think this would be my favourite write of the day...for so many wonderful reasons.

"A willow is standing lazily,
Her branches, like a fine lady's shawl,"

Brilliant imagery right throughout the whole piece and the way you ended her...

"I am still. The fish is still. I am humbled."

PERFECT!!

I just feel so darn relaxed right now...and you have definately allowed me to see how you are in awe of and as one with Mother Earth and her gifts.
Thank you!
Blessings

BRAVO!BRAVO!BRAVO! Roses at your feet. You've just had the privilege of witnessing a Miracle! You and Kingfisher on stage with only your heart beat as the monitor. Oh this is a Marvelous write indeed!
What a rare sighting. I love birds, and know you do too, but I'll bet you never thought of anything like this to view!
I loved every minute of you miracle Dennis.
How very rare and beautiful!
Warm love
