Mirror Image.

Contributed by cashfan1 on Friday, 16th July 2010 @ 08:19:52 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I recognise you,
You were young once,
Lean and taunt with youth
And the only burden you carried
Was the burden of expectation,
The only demon to haunt your mind
The demon of ambition.
You had great cities to see
And continents to cross.
You had so much love to give
That the taking was a small expectation.
And you had so many wise words
To be recited from the pages of your futile mind.
And my, how that seems so long ago,
The years have been a worthy opponent
Etching your face in a monochrome of disbelief,
Sketching lines across your forehead
That lead away from the path of expectation,
Drawing you away down side streets
That harbour no ambition, along byways
Haunted by the demons of every day living.
Yes, I recognise you, but the question is
Do you recognise me?

Thanks for that... we share a common pain
wraped in divergant verbiage

Good write... don't stop emoting onto the page

I did, and now I'm back, but full of regret...

Keep the faith...

As easily as describling the wrinkles on one's face,
this reflects so vividly the wrinkles on the soul. I found
enormous inspiration in this. And just a little bit of
myself as well...hiding among words and images and
phrases. This is exquisitely written. LOVE the last line.

I really do like this one and can relate to it a lot. I can think of a few young ones that could gain some perspective by reading it too.

Thank you for sharing.

Tim
