Winter Dark.

I walked out into the darkness,
A demon making darkness.
The loneliness was lurking under hedges,
In fields and the foothills where even the shadows were lame.
The two dogs stood, white statues, seeing, sensing
The loneliness at the very core of my mind.
Then made mobile by the moment they set off,
Each casting neat prints in the frost,
The heavy mastiff snorting like a pig, scraped his feet,
A sound like a blade across ice, shattering the dark stillness.
The darkness clung to mind and soul and the hooting of an owl,
A ghostliness eagerly consumed by my poetry making mind.
We walked on to the woods, a small gathering of trees
Eyeing the loneliness, the demons assembled like a lynch mob,
A small breeze baying in the stillness, and the dogs stiff with unease.
My breath drew a vaporous plea in the darkness
And the minute sounds of the woodland floor, the scurrying, the scratching,
A testament of torment this dark winter night.
And now neither I nor the dogs can entertain this darkness a minute more,
So we turn away, our minds full of cosy fireside, rugs and armchair,
Thick curtains that hide this demon making darkness.

Wonderfully description of the winter's darkness. I felt as if I was there with you. You are right; there is something about Winter darkness that has death-like eerieness.

Your poem was imaginative and descriptive. I really liked and enjoyed the conceptual way that you comprised this poem.
I see the heart of a story-teller who can express most vivid thoughts.
Well done.
