SEED OF DISCONTENTMENT

SEED OF DISCONTENT

A tiny seed fits on the end of my finger
Lingers there securely, attached.
If I shake my hand
It will surely fall to the ground
Out of sight, no place to nourish.
It will be forgotten.
I will move on.
The seed is persistent,
Unwilling to yield to the shaking, scraping attempts
To rid it from my fingertip.
It is stuck.
It seems to have taken root.
It is changing, developing, maturing.
I am fascinated and distracted.
I spend time, too much, directed to this seed.
I am reminded of its presence and growth.
I rub and “worry” the spot on my finger.
It is becoming painful and infected.
The more attention I give,
The longer I focus,
The more time is spent,
Attending to this annoying little seed.
It has grown into a significant part of me.
I cannot seem to cure or wither it.
It is taking over my existence.
I feel a daily, nightly sickness.
The headache never goes away.
The knot in my chest tightens.
Every muscle in my body aches as I push through the day.
I am amazed how effective I can be under these conditions.
Night no longer brings relief.
The discontent of this seed makes my heart crackle.
My lungs search for fresher air.
My poor brain wants to explode.
The tongue in my mouth cannot remain quiet much longer.
Before the seed flowers,
Its energy must be extinguished.
There is my dilemma.
The seed of discontent is overpowering!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
