Anointed With A Kiss.

Contributed by cashfan1 on Monday, 12th July 2010 @ 06:59:45 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

The coolness of this room
Is ice melting slowly from the inside.
The sterility of the room is doubtful
And as I approach you my doubt is a tear drop
That even now is stuborn in its refusal to flow.
Your eyes are closed, the spirit of seeing gone,
Massaged away by the tender touch of the embalmer.
You are still at last now your life is lived,
The papery skin of your left hand clutches rosary beads,
Your right hand fleshed by a silver cross.
And at this moment I know you are all you will ever be.
A bedside fan whispers a soft tune,
Stirs the room with a sighing breeze
That lifts the strands of your white hair on the altar of this moment.
And all the while you lay there in a blatant reversal of birth.
Dressed in your best suit you will re-enter the womb of the world
To be reborn by another time.
And now I will do what I nor you have ever done before,
And I pray my boldness will not embarass you in the presence of your god,
I dip my head, that tear is released at last, I put my lips to your forehead,
And anoint you with a kiss.

Hi,

You have excelled in this one, and reading it I once
again felt all the emotions of my vigil with my
late father as he lay dying. And, like yourself,
kissed him, though after he died. Why didn't I do
it before he died - he may have known?

A wonderful write and I'm sure I'm not the only
one who feels a connection with the words.

Tommy
