Frost Fox

Topic: NaturePoetry

Through a small clearing in the forest of sky
A moon arrives,
The old man bestowing a lopsided smile
On the plough land.
Here and there a frost, a small concealment,
Delicately covers the brown earth.
And there by a shadow on the headland
A newly penciled vision of a fox
Is cast in a winter loneliness, his hot pungent smell
A small revelation of his solitary roaming.
His eyes reflect a glance off the moon
That even now tell of his thrusting hunger
And deep desire to plunder and fulfill some ancient urge.
I watch him, my loneliness a fierce loyalty,
And, lifting his nostrils to the breeze, a twitching moment
Of unease, uncertainty happens.
The burnished tip of his brush a quiver, he senses me
But I stand in the shape of darkness, my concealment
A small triumph.
He catches my glance crossing his shadow and moves,
A slow deliberation going about its solitude.
He barks just once, a coughing echo
That shakes the trees from midnight slumber.
My own shadow is blessed by moon, stars and frost fox,
One more glance and he is gone,
Leaving his imprint in the scorched earth, and with him goes
My freedom, my loneliness, my deepest desire.

Hi,

These kind of moments don't come along too
often, and you captured it so eloquently in verse.

Nice write.

Captivating, detailed and can almost see the warmth of breath against the cold as you are watching, then the blessing of that moment leaving the yearning of all it represents, what it takes, and what it leaves behind.
