Thought Under A Ripening Sky.

Contributed by cashfan1 on Saturday, 26th June 2010 @ 08:00:57 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I am sitting on the deck
Waiting for the sky to fully ripen
The luscious fruit of darkness.
The air is warm and heavily infused with elderflower
And the sweet scent of an English rose.
Outside on the road a car passes slowly, respectfully,
As if the driver can read every word of every stanza
That flows across the blank page of my mind.
The car is gone and the final fragments of light,
Heavy with silence, capture the birds in the aviary,
Their soft feathers and delicate faces
Cast out in a monochrome of shadows.
And still the sky hangs heavy with unripened fruit,
The horizon stenciled with storm clouds
From where something deeper, something more enticing
Is emerging, a slow determined shadow
Is crossing the mountains on the moon.
And then a slow breeze unfolds in the sultry air
And the moment is upon me
When the sky's fruit peels away the outer husks of light
And with a determined push opens the deep berry
Sweet mouthful of darkness.
At last the final word of the final stanza
Flows in a quickening rhythm across the page of my mind.
Going, at last, from blank to full.

I like this...a lot! Has a very serene feel to it plus I like the fact of how you write about the process of what's going through your mind of creating a poem.

Thank you for a great read.

Tim

"The luscious fruit of darkness"- wonderful line, almost sexual, which I guess is all part of nature.

Thanks for posting.
