someone moved the stars tonight
rearranged them overhead;
turned constellations inside out
so all the patterns can’t be read
the Southern Cross, inverted now
Antares, Rigel dimmed to mild;
Aries has wandered north, and
Pollux left an only child
seasons’ maps have all combined
Canis Major, now supine;
Mintaka a mere speck of light
on Orion’s Belt, a smidge too tight
on blackest cloth the diamonds wink
giving up their long shed light;
someone moved the stars around
but even so, they shine alright.
