Sand Back to Dust

Contributed by alasdaircairns on Wednesday, 9th June 2010 @ 02:49:40 PM in AEST
Topic: war

You can't stop the big war machine,
They've polished it until it gleams in your dreams,
No escaping this stark crimson scene,
Basing tomorrows on the things that we've seen.
You can't convince me your lies are alright,
But can change the truth with illusion tonight,
No avoiding the evil you have become,
Without making us numb, well done!

I can't make sense of the wrongs you implore,
Turn sand back to dust and virgin to whore,
No excusing the hurt that you've caused,
It's not fine because you did it before.
You can't control every alien land,
Two in the bush becomes one in the hand,
Drowning out protest with military bands,
Your mind is the territory you should expand.

Those last two lines! They really make the piece. That element reminds me of a sonnet, you know? The first 12 lines are a nice poem, and then the last two end the piece with a BANG. I love it!
